REPOST: Was roaming around YouTube looking up Native American artists and found LITEFOOT, probably the first Native American Hip-Hop artist I have heard of. Litefoot has been in the music scene for close to 20 years now but might be recognized best as Little Bear in the movie The Indian in the Cupboard as well as other movies including Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Kull the Conqueror, Song Of Hiawatha and The Pearl as well as other movies and TV appearances.
Besides being a Hip-Hop artist and actor, Litefoot is a motivational speaker that has gone around to various native reservations in the US and Canada, bringing hope and empowerment to others as well as speaking about historical and contemporary Native American issues and views at schools throughout the world. And if that isn’t enough, Litefoot is also an entrepreneur in creating sneakers, named the Litefoot FlexArrow™ as well as his Native Style clothing line. Oh, and least I forget he also has a book out called “The Medicine of Prayer”
I checked out his most recent music video, “I Am It” which is off his new release called “The Testament,” as well as other videos and found that his music ranges from contemporary Rap/Hip-Hop with lyrics ranging from the typical sounds you hear in that genre as well as a higher level of understanding promoting understanding and love. Not only does he have the similar styles found in Hip-Hop and Rap but also includes some Native American sounds, including chants, drumming and more into his music.
